Proware EP-4643D2-FGS6 64-bay RAID storage manufactured by Proware is an ultra high-density 4U rackmount RAID storage solution that has two 16Gb/s Fibre Channel ports per controller and supports SAS or SATA drives. Designed to provide high density storage up to 640TB’s using 10TB drives in a compact and ultra reliable chassis that can be expanded to support 256 drives.  The 64 bay RAID storage chassis has been fully certified to work with Citrix and VMware to deliver continuous operation throughout the enterprise.

RAID Storage System Overview

Delivering an 64 bay RAID storage solution when many comparable systems provide only 42 bays in the same 4u footprint requires an in-depth technical understanding of the cooling and power requirements of the modern day disk drive.  Proware with whom we have worked with for the past 15 years provide that understanding, service and technical know how to make it work.

Environmental monitoring

This is done by SES (SCSI Enclosure Services) and monitors the enclosure and disk environmental conditions.  From the image on the right, you can see the RJ-45 management ports on each controller.

SAS backplane

With an intelligent SAS backplane that is a cable less design provides the hot-swapping of drives, power supplies and fans ensuring continuous up-time against system or component failure.

Fibre Channel Controllers

Each Fibre Channel controller has two 16Gb/s ports to connect to your host(s) and each controller has  One 6Gb/s SAS (SFF-8644) for SAS JBOD expansion.

Supported Drives

The chassis supports all drives with a SAS-2 or SATA-3 host connection including SSD.  If you choose SATA drives then an optional MUX board will be required.  Fully supports 10TB SAS or SATA drives.  The drive caddies can also support either 3.5″ or 2.5″ drives.

Fans

With 15 fans to cool the RAID storage chassis, these again are hot swappable to aid maintenance and support.

Power Supplies

Powered by 2x 1100W PSU, the RAID storage will still run even if one fails.  Requires AC 100V ~ 240V Full Range, 15A ~ 7.5A, 47Hz ~ 63Hz.

Weights and Dimensions

880(L) x 482.6(W) x 177(H) mm, (Default Slide Rail: Post to Post 800mm~1090mm (32”~42”) / Option: Post to Post 750mm~900mm (29”~35”), weight with no disks 45Kgs.

Lifting handles provide safe handling when securing in the rack.

Note: The MUX board is required for use with dual channel FC controllers and SATA drives.  It essentially creates two signal paths to each controller, otherwise, a SATA drive can only be seen by a single controller.
