80 bay JBOD storage manufactured by Proware is a ultra high density 4U rackmount JBOD storage solution that features 6Gb/s SAS2 interfaces and supports both SAS or SATA drives. Designed to provide high density storage up to 800TB’s using 10TB drives in a compact and ultra reliable chassis. The 80 bay JBOD storage chassis has been fully certified to work with Microsoft Windows Server 2012 / 2012 R2 to deliver continuous operation throughout the enterprise.

Suitable applications and uses
As a JBOD storage solution you can connect this to a SAS controller and run the JBOD as part of a “Software Defined Storage” solution e.g. Nutanix, Scality, Caringo. Alternatively you can connect the JBOD to a RAID controller and carve up the storage with differing RAID levels to your applications.

Delivering an 80 bay JBOD storage solution when many comparable systems provide only 60 bays in the same 4u footprint requires an in-depth technical understanding of the cooling and power requirements of the modern day disk drive. Proware with whom we have worked with for the past 15 years provide that understanding, service and technical know how to make it work.
This is done by SES (SCSI Enclosure Services) and monitors the enclosure and disk environmental conditions. From the image on the right you can see the RJ-45 management ports on each controller.
With an intelligent SAS backplane that is a cable less design provides the hot-swapping of drives, power supplies and fans ensuring continuous up-time against system or component failure.
Each SAS controller has four 6Gb/s SFF-8088 expansion ports to connect to your host or SAS JBOD expansion.
The chassis supports all drives with a SAS-2 or SATA-3 host connection including SSD. If you choose SATA drives then an optional MUX board will be required. Fully supports 10TB SAS or SATA drives. The drive caddies can also support either 3.5″ or 2.5″ drives.
With 12 fans to cool the JBOD storage chassis these again are hot swappable to aid maintenance and support.
Powered by 4x 650W PSU, the JBOD storage can suffer two complete PSU failures before the system fails. Requires AC 90V ~ 264V Full Range, 50Hz~60Hz, 10A-5A.

Note: The MUX board is required for use with dual channel SAS controllers and SATA drives. It essentially creates two signal paths to each controller, otherwise a SATA drive can only bee seen by a single controller.
