Lower Management Costs
The Spectra T950 Library is Easy to Use, Manage, and Maintain
From initial installation to long-term library maintenance, Spectra T950 library features simplify backup, lowering management costs in:
Using the Spectra T950 Library
Using the library is easy, with the Spectra T950 library’s large color touch-screen interface. This same intuitive interface is available remotely through the Remote Library Controller (RLC), which displays through any Web browser. This gives you the freedom to manage your Spectra T950 library from anywhere. Other management tools, including Observatory, help you monitor and manage all of the Spectra Logic libraries in your data center. [ Back to Top ]
Managing the Spectra T950 Library
Managing and maintaining your library is easy thanks to the Spectra T950 libraryâ€s self-monitoring, AutoSupport, and Assisted Self Maintenance (ASM) options. With AutoSupport, you can have the library email SpectraGuard support with the necessary information automatically filled in. The ASM option lets you use parts stored on your site to quickly swap in components—no waiting for a systems engineer. Just fix it and youâ€re ready to back up data again right away. SpectraGuard Support offers a wide range of other options, too, to take the headache out of managing backups, including the SpectraGuard guarantee—the support is on-time or itâ€s free. Adding RXT Drives and Managing RXT Media
Adding an RXT drive to a Spectra T950 library is as simple as adding a tape drive—simply slide the RXT drive in, configure it in a partition, and load RXT media. Then, without any further changes to data center space use, heating, cooling, or external applications—you are ready to back up to disk. RXT media RAID levels are set at the time of purchase, and the RAID is managed automatically from the drive. Just order the RXT media in the RAID level that matches your environmentâ€s requirements; no user intervention is required to manage the RAID array in the media pack. [ Back to Top ]
Lowering Overhead Costs
The Spectra T950 libraryâ€s high-density construction preserves expensive data center space while lowering power usage and cooling costs. The key to this is the unique construction of the Spectra T950 library, with TeraPack media always moved and handled in groups until a single tape is needed. This stores the tapes in the greatest density possible, with more data stored per centimeter, preserving data center space. [ Back to Top ]
Spending Less Time Handling Media
Grouped media using TeraPack technology saves you time by handling tapes approximately one-tenth as often. The tapes are imported in and exported from the library in bar-coded 9-slot or 10-slot packs so that you never need to handle individual tapes. With snap on, clear dust covers, you can store and stack TeraPack containers easily, protecting the media inside and making it much easier to transport and care for the media. TeraPack-encased media also fits into specially constructed Iron Mountain suitcases for use in any on-site or off-site storage facility. [ Back to Top ]
Another advantage of the Spectra T950 library’s unique method of handling TeraPack-encased media is that the library can accept two TeraPack containers (containing up to 20 tapes) at a time, repeatedly, so that bulk loads and unloads take a fraction of the time. There are two TeraPack Access Ports (TAPs) instead of the commonly used library door, the packs themselves can be queued up and delivered, one after another, without waiting for the library to find the tape and move it to the fixed door slots. This saves a great deal of time, and there is never enough of that in any IT center. [ Back to Top ]
Spending Less Time on Upgrades
Upgrading is easy—simply enter an activation key to enable features, capacity, performance, and more. Drives and QIPs (controllers) are hot-swappable; you can also add frames to expand both capacity and performance. [ Back to Top ]
Adding Disk and Encryption Easily
The Spectra T950 library lets you easily manage multiple media types and technologies in a single enclosure. You don’t need to add a separate disk array or a separate encryption appliance instead, simply use the Spectra T950 library for one or both. From a single point of management, and with just one service vendor, you can back up to multiple tiers of storage, including mobile RAID disk and multiple tape technologies, and even encrypt any or all of the backed up data. It takes only minutes to add BlueScale Encryption, which supports strong, federally approved AES-256 encryption, and provides a complete Endura Key Management system through the library €s existing interface.
